All About Washington Mutual

The Washington Mutual is one of United States's leading consumer and small business banks. Wahington Mutual is not a credit union or mutual company. It is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. As of June 30, 2005, it stands as the 6th largest bank in the United States by assets, valued at $350.7 billion.

In March of 2006, Washington Mutual began moving into its new headquarters, WaMu Center, located in downtown Seattle. The company's original headquarters, is Washington Mutual Tower, which is a block away from the new building on Second Avenue.

Washington Mutual's principal activities are to provide financial services to consumers and small businesses such as retail banking, mortgage lending, consumer lending, business banking, business lending, insurance services, credit card services, commercial real estate mortgage and consumer investment services.Washington Mutual operates more than 2,600 retail banking, mortgage lending, commercial banking, and financial services offices, as of June 30, 2006.

History

Washington Mutual was founded as the Washington National Building Loan and Investment Association on September 25, 1889 in an attempt to save Seattle's economy after a fire nearly destroyed the city. It made the first home mortgage loan on the West Coast on Feburary 10, 1890. Its name was changed to Washington Savings and Loan Association on June 25, 1908.

Washington Mutual Savings Bank company made its first acquisition on July 25, 1930, by purchasing Continental Mutual Savings Bank. Over the next fifty years it would be involved in pioneering cash machine networks and telephone banking.

I don't believe that Washington Mutual even deserves a single star. They have done NOTHING about fraud charges on my account. I have to solve the problems completely on my own, with the companies involved, and that takes months to almost a year.... The so-called "Identity Theft Protection" is complete false advertising (and non-existent), and even AFTER you report a charge as being fraud, they STILL charge you an overdraft. The bank branches will not deal with ANYTHING that has to do with your account other than opening it, deposits, and withdrawals. The Toco Hills, Atlanta, GA assistant-manager was actually VERY rude with me (no wonder her branch closed!) when I tried to deal with such issues. They only deal with you over the phone, which we all know takes all of your minutes up on your cell, with automated service and being on hold. I was transferred from person to person to person, no one could help me, so they transferred me to no one after an hour of holding. I called back, and the same thing happened. If no one has the competence, why not act stupid and transfer to no one? Sounds like the innocent thing to do right? Washington Mutual is the worst bank I have ever dealt with, in 3 states. .

Oh also, watch out for their collections. They'll literally call you 10-20 times a day to harass you even after you don't live there anymore. They won't answer the phone to speak with you until you scream get on the phone @@($#()@*@(, then they'll answer. Crappy company to do business with..

DO NOT get a credit card from this company. I got one when I was in real need for money. They charge 40.00 every month that you don't get it to them on time and they have rediculously outrageous interest rates. I borrowed 1500.00 less than a year ago and it's already up to 3k. I've reported them to the BBB because I think they're adding extra stuff on the bills..

Do not ever make a mistake setting up a link to another outside bank account.They can not reset anything so there are no do overs! However you can open up another outside bank account and they will be happy for you to try and link accounts again..

I purchased my home in 4/2006 my first three payments were mailed in on time.I received an intent to foreclose letter we were given wrong loan# and wrong adress to mail payments.now i am on the verge of losin my home they will not work with me to reduce intrest rate they have ruined my credit an i cant get refi. from anyone my intrest is12.55 percent intrest on a 65000.00 loan..

Washington Mutual totally botched our home mortgage. We had been with them for over 10 years. . .and noticed discrepancies in the escrow and primary balance. . .To make a long story short. . .because of their lack of availablity to Customer Service, we had to hire an attorney to clear up a Demand Letter which we received for over $100K. . . Turned out to be a mistake. . . Ask me if they apologized for the error? . . .no Ask me if they offer to reimburse our legal fees . . . no As me how long it took them to get our Credit Report corrected. . 1 yr They are indeed a gem. . NOT. . . do not, under any circumstances, take out a mortgage with the company. . . .

One of the many banks I have had the opportunity to work with over the years is Washington Mutual, a full- service lending banking institution. The bank has many branches and offers services all over the United States, with on- line banking, on- line bill pay, and other web- based services to help members better manage their money. I'm much happier with WM. The only thing I pay for to bank at WM are my checks. I don't pay a monthly fee for my checking account so I'm very happy about that. There aren't hidden fees either like other banks. That's what makes Washington Mutual the best bank for me..

Hi friends, I took a loan from Washington Mutual.The form filling is very easy for this bank. All the formalities and forms will be completed or filled by the representatives of this Bank and the procedure is very easy in this compared to other Banks. Washington Mutual Bank is one of the best companies I have ever dealt with. They provide best service to their customers and they care very much to their customers.
